Abdominal Exercising During Pregnancy

Most of the abdominal exercises are very fine when you are pregnant and in the initial months. If you are obese or are diabetic, consult your care provider before you begin exercising. The ideal exercise program includes an aerobic activity, some strength training and flexibility exercises. All three together build great overall health. During this time you can avoid crunches, sit-ups, leg-lifts and other exercises. This is because and you lay back, the weight of the baby would block the vena cava, i.e. the blood vessel providing oxygen and blood to the uterus. As you find the oxygen and blood being restricted, you would find it very uncomfortable to carry on with the abdominal exercises when you are pregnant. During pregnancy there would be uneasiness when you scrunch up the abdomen.

Aerobic activities- The term aerobic means "with oxygen." During an aerobic workout, the cardiovascular system, which includes the heart, lungs and blood vessels, responds to physical activity by increasing the oxygen that is available to the body's working muscles. Exercise such as walking, swimming and cycling improves the efficiency of your lungs, heart and circulatory system. It also helps enhance your emotional well being and promotes more restful sleep.

Strength training- Strength training is a vital part of a balanced exercise routine that includes aerobic activity and flexibility exercises. Activities such as weight training and Pilates build muscle strength. Abdominal muscle strength helps protect you from back pain during pregnancy, as well as for the rest of your life.

Flexibility - Flexibility is the ability to move joints and muscles through their full range of motion. Stretching prevents injuries by relaxing your muscles and increasing your range of motion. It also decreases soreness and contributes to your sense of well being by promoting deep breathing, relaxation and good blood flow. Yoga and dance moves are both good for flexibility. Moderate exercise will not decrease your chances of conceiving or put you at risk for miscarriage. Therefore don't do any heavy exercise do light exercises and take balanced food during pregnancy.
